Alright Apple fans, this is it! It’s been a decade since the first iPhone was introduced so you know something big is headed your way. Yes, we’re here to talk about the new Apple iPhone 8 that is rumored to be released around September 2017. But do you know what features it will have? Let’s take a look at some of the rumors as they seem to be all over the place, from design to display to features and everything in between.
Apple is rumored to be developing 3 separate models for its revolutionary iPhones — each with different features— and currently in the experimentation and testing phase on different prototypes. They’re pulling out all the stops to make sure that this 10th Anniversary iPhone is one for the “iBooks”.
Sticking to its current naming policy would mean that Apple would continue to name it the iPhone 7s. The name iPhone 8 is one of the most likely names for the upcoming phone because of many factors such as the 10th Anniversary, since Steve Jobs first announced the iPhone on 9th of January 2007 and it was released on June 29th 2007. There’s no telling what Apple may do. It may call the new iPhone may be called the iPhone 10 (as in the 10th Anniversary iPhone) with the 2 other models being called the iPhone Pro or Air to make it consistent with its other Apple product’s naming like the MacBook and iPad.
Apple previously designed and released its iPhones in 2 years with the “s” versions having new features every year in between. That frequency is rumored to have increased from 2 to 3 years.
There’s a new patent that Apple has acquired, which indicates that the iPhone display will cover the entire front face of the phone. A glass design could be used, getting rid of the back cover for a frame made of stainless steel trapped between 2 glass panes, like the iPhone 4 and 4s. The design may allow water-resistant figures to increase beyond IP67 (1m depth for up to 30 mins). The new iPhone may feature wireless charging for the first time and the stainless steel glass sandwich design may help to achieve that. It will, in effect, truly be a wireless iPhone, yay!
Apple may be dropping off the iconic home button entirely if its concept phones are any indication. There will still be a biometric finger scanner rumored to be at the bottom edge of the phone. Other features rumored are full face detection and an iris scanner, keeping up with competitors such as Samsung.
It will feature the A-11 chip, the iOS 11 and will have storage options of 32GB, 128GB and 256 GB.
The next generation of iPhones may feature a thin and curved OLED display that has no bezels as one of its testing prototypes is rumored to have one. This is backed by a report by Nikkei back in March 2016 which stated Apple was planning to drop LCD displays altogether. The size of the iPhone’s screen may be anywhere between 4.7 and 5.5 inch, with the iPhone Pro.
Apple fans, the dual camera may just be a part of the Plus models and will continue with the new iPhone’s “Plus” edition. Or we could be wrong and you might just get your dual cam.
Whatever the case, the iPhone has got us pumped!!! Has it got you pumped, too?
